Accidents

Restroom accidents can happen.  We will use your child's extra clothes (stored in his/her backpack) for this occasion.  I tell the children the extra clothes are for when we have too much fun in kindergarten.  This way, they are not nervous or thinking about restroom accidents.  :)

If your child has a restroom accident at school, I will sent him/her to the nurse.  If the nurse is not available or if the accident is severe, you will be required to come to school to assist.  Teachers are not allowed to help children change clothing or clean themselves.  When your child has an accident, we are very nurturing & sensitive about the situation.  I often say, "accidents happen." and we move on as naturally as possible.  Children react to our reactions.

All children are encouraged to use the restroom when we take our restroom breaks during the day.  Even if they don't feel like they need to go, I encourage them to try.  This prevents many accidents.  We also have a restroom located in our classroom.  Children are free to use this restroom after letting us know where they will be.  To prevent interruptions & for easy access to the restroom, children show me the restroom signal with their hand. If it is an emergency and we are in our classroom, they just go into our classroom restroom.  Don't wait to tell Ms. Everett!
