Interrupting

We review and practice polite behavior.  We say please & thank you.  We help our friends.  We listen when someone is talking.  We take turns. We also learn how to not interrupt a conversation.

Please practice this routine at home.  Let your child witness you focusing your attention on someone without being distracted or torn away. I like to say, "Thank you for waiting patiently while I was talking to Sarah!  You were so kind to wait while I listened to her words."

I reward behavior through positive comments, recognition & non-tangible rewards.  I created this "Crown" system years ago to recognize children who were displaying exceptional behavior throughout the day. Everyone begins the day on the first crown row.

At the end of the day, behavior is quickly documented on the chart. Please sign the form daily.  This will help reinforce or redirect behavior.  If your child earns a crown for the day, they are very special.  I did not redirect your child throughout the entire day. Your child knows how to do the right thing all by himself/herself. If your child reaches the top of our behavior chart, they earn a star crown.

When I see someone exhibiting positive behavior, I will ask them to move their magnet up on the behavior chart.  Sometimes I document what the behavior was with a letter.  See the key below...

If your child receives crowns for the entire week, he/she will bring home a "Crown Note" on Friday...

For the behaviors below, I give one warning and then ask your child to move their magnet down.  I will document the behavior on the behavior chart with the corresponding number.  Everyone makes mistakes.  When we make a bad choice, we get a chance to redeem ourselves and start anew.

Example of a completed chart.  This child earned a lunch date with Ms. Everett because he earned crowns for the entire 6 weeks!
