Differentiation

I must differentiate my lessons and small group instruction to meet the needs of all the children in my class.  I meet your child where he/she is on their journey.  Some children will discover that they are not doing the advanced work and feel inferior.  The way I explain this is that everyone's brain works in a different way.  This helps ease feelings of insecurity.  I also praise and reward each child's accomplishments - a great way to boost confidence.

May Box

We can't allow toys at school, because they can get lost/broken and cause a disruption to our learning.  Toys that are brought to school will be put in the May Box after a few warnings, of course!  May Box toys collected throughout the year will be given back to their owners in the month of May.  I find that the concrete place usually deters "toy bringers" and the May Box remains empty!
